Civic engagement or phronesis? A paradigm will, indeed, unify instruction and research in any College of ABS and will also enhance the value of its degrees, which, as you put it, is now perceived by the public as something of a matter of studying "museum pieces." But civic engagement is too limited to capture the imagination of students and professors, while phronesis is broad enough to do so. It would take up the issue of practical relevance by helping students and professors make applications of the theoretical knowledge of their disciplines to the common good in the three main areas of life that you mentioned: work, civic engagement, and personal development.
