The decline of the humanities in American higher education – literature, history, philosophy, classical studies, linguistics, and foreign languages – is most recently evident in the drop in enrollments from 17.2% of degrees in 1967 to 6.5% in 2013.[1]
Here's another argument. Values clarification doesn't take place in STEM courses, but it does in the humanities. STEM courses encourage a life dedicated to private material gain, while the humanities encourage a life dedicated to the values of character and the common good. How about combining STEM courses with humanities courses?
